The several oxbow lakes are actually house to a wide array of Amazon Rainforest wildlife. Some of the lakes have even provided houses and refuges for endangered giant river otters. Puerto Maldonado, located in the southeastern region of Peru, serves as the main gateway for the Amazon Rainforest.
